Luna Cacau is a project that emerged in 2014.
Nora Maldonado Valencia, its creator, began sharing nutritious chocolates for children, teens, and adults in various stores, cafes, and restaurants in the Colonia Moderna neighborhood of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Over the months, she delved deeper into the subject of the cacao seed and discovered that the oldest variety of this seed comes from the Xoconusco region of Chiapas, and is in danger of extinction. Nora traveled to southeastern Mexico to find a direct producer of Mexican criollo cacao. She didn't know what the road would hold. She sold her chocolate from a basket on the streets of the cities where she made stops. With that money and donations for performing pre-Hispanic dance shows in city squares, she was able to reach Chiapas, where she magically met a group of families who have come together to preserve the tradition of natural cacao cultivation and its fermentation process.

Now, Luna Cacau uses only this variety of cacao, the Mexican Criolla, for its chocolates. They pay a fair price to the farmer, thus creating a final product free of chemicals, dairy, and refined sugars. The Luna Cacau product line aims to preserve the ancient flavor of chocolate with innovative flavors, maintaining an artisanal process and rustic textures. Highlighting the great benefits that cacao provides us is part of the education that Luna Cacau shares with us in its SmartSnacks, its Lunas de Cacau, as well as other uses of this wonderful seed. Luna Cacau currently produces its product line in the magical town of Ajijic, in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. The Luna Cacau project is creating alliances to generate artistic and cultural spaces where knowledge of the good food and drink of cacao and chocolate can also be disseminated.
